Greek Seasoning Blends

Learn how to make your own Greek seasoning blends for protein, vegetables, and salads. Combine herbs and spices and achieve Mediterranean flavors in a few steps.

Ingredients

Mediterranean rub

  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 2 tablespoons dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • teaspoons onion powder
  • teaspoons dried dill
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • ¾ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon chili flakes

Instructions

  • This excellent rub can be used to season beef, chicken, fish, and grilled vegetables. 

Notes

Salad seasoning

This blend includes oregano, thyme, mint, and basil and can be used to flavor your salads with a delightful Mediterranean flavor.
  • Four tablespoons of dried oregano.
  • Two tablespoons of dried thyme,
  • Two tablespoons of dried basil
  • One tablespoon of dried spearmint.
 
This amount combination makes fills a 1.5 oz jar. You can easily double or triple the amounts to make a larger quantity.

How to use it

Cut up a couple of fresh juicy tomatoes, slice a cucumber, and thinly some onion. You can add avocado slices, cube some Greek feta cheese or gruyere, grab 5-6 olives, and add them to a bowl. Drizzle two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, a teaspoon of wine vinegar, and a tablespoon of Greek salad seasoning and mix well—season with sea salt to taste. Let the salad sit for half an hour before serving.
 

Rubs for chicken

The chicken rubs are great on all parts of the chicken – breasts, thighs, legs, or wings. You can even sprinkle it on a whole chicken to roast in the oven or in a smoker. It is also delicious as a seasoning on roasted vegetables and potatoes.

Lemon zest and thyme rub for chicken

  • Two tablespoons lemon zest (make sure it has dried out and there is no moisture left).
  • Two teaspoons of freshly ground black pepper.
  • One teaspoon of garlic powder.
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder.
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme.
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt.

    Paprika & coriander

    • ¼ cup smoked paprika.
    • Three tablespoons of freshly ground pepper.
    • Three tablespoons garlic flakes.
    • Three tablespoons onion flakes.
    • Two tablespoons of dried oregano.
    • Two tablespoons of dried thyme.
    • One tablespoon of sea salt.
    • Two teaspoons of ground coriander.
    • One teaspoon of cayenne pepper.

    How to use the chicken rubs

    Pour olive over the chicken and sprinkle the rub on top, about one tablespoon or as much as you like. Rub the seasoning all over and inside the chicken.

     

    Blend for pork & beef dishes

    The pork and beef seasoning blend combines sage, thyme, sweet red pepper, onion, and orange. This blend adds intensity to the flavor of pork or beef and pairs perfectly with sauces and marinades. It can also be used as a spice for ground meat dishes, vegetarian dishes, and risotto.
    • Three tablespoons dried sage.
    • Two tablespoons of dried thyme.
    • One tablespoon of sweet red pepper flakes.
    • One tablespoon of dried onion.
    • One tablespoon of fresh orange zest (make sure it has dried out and there is no moisture left).

    How to store homemade season blends

    Store your Greek seasoning blends in an airtight container with the rest of your herbs and spices in your pantry. Put a label with the name and date; the blends should last two years. To enjoy this last benefit, always use fresh and good quality spices!
